This satellite meeting will focus on recent advances in the field of molecular marine biology and aquaculture. New Zealand harbours vast marine ecosystems that hold most the country’s biodiversity and supports a large fishing and aquaculture industry. Recent scientific advancements in the fields such as selective breeding, environmental DNA (eDNA), reproductive technologies and the management of wild species, have made the marine sector an exciting and rapidly evolving research area. This satellite meeting will provide the opportunity to bring together researchers and practitioners using genomics and other molecular approaches that advance our understanding of the marine environment and aquaculture. We encourage participants to present research that demonstrates the combination of molecular techniques with other disciplines such as reproductive biology, community biology, ecotoxicology, ecology, biogeography, invasive species management, environmental monitoring, marine megafauna, fisheries and aquaculture. Presentations could also focus on innovative ideas and solutions that address the challenges associated with using genomics in the marine environment; including sampling design, laboratory protocols and data analysis.
